Lack of integrated research in theme of Sustainable Development

In a small chat, I was asked by my colleague that how come Muslim people are not much response on mecca demolition of Cultural heritage? My response is, The Muslim international society has been influence much by west culture and trend of science or knowledge. Most of Muslim based country has put their believe currently to science and technology. How the situation can be like that, in my opinion, Muslim society has been long enough to see western county as model of good development. Where the poverty, inequality, an injustice are rare to see. Beside, Media promotes many good view and picture on great achievement of western country. I want to share and reflect  my current experience on research competition that fund by on of Big oil company in Indonesia. The name of company is Pertamina who established a foundation name Pertamina Foundation. This foundation has a research competition program that support Indonesia researcher on theme "sustainable development in education". To short the story, an announcement day was coming and the organizer released the list of winner. Surprise, I found many great concept and idea to research on this research competition fund. But, I have my own analysis on this research trends that bring me to a simple conclusion.

From 23 of acceptance applicants in independent research category, I see from research title that the research is orientated to technology and science based understanding. I am aware, this science and technology based has many contribution to the knowledge development but not only the way to give a contribution on sustainable development that we want to achieve. But this fact indicated that Indonesian academic society have strong believe on science and technology are the only answer of human and nature degradation, lack of of resource redistribution to end poverty and over consumption by north countries. Contradictory with the fact and history, what was experienced many problematic situation in southern world were transferred form western believe that lead world society to unsolved situation. This opinion is not addressed to disadvantage the event of Pertamina Foundation, this event shall be appreciated. In the middle of Indonesia uncertainty on giving space and appreciation to researcher, academia and activist. There is appeared an organization is care to those people in order to contribute on Sustainable Development. But understanding the value on sustainable development that reflected integration of three poles of Sustainable Development, it shall be carefully decided. Otherwise, the outcome of event will lead to new problem of the concept and implementation on Sustainable Development. (rn)
